Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is “The Man Who Saw Heaven” musical?2024-10-03T04:32:07+00:00

The Man Who Saw Heaven is a brand-new musical that tells the story of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Release date will be in the Spring of 2025, date TBD.

The musical will include a studio album, along with a stage performance.

At it’s core, The Man Who Saw Heaven is a faith-building true story about the Lord’s Prophet of the Last Days, his mission as the Prophet of the Restoration, and his calling as a Seer who saw heaven (and much more).

Our objective goes far beyond entertainment. Our hope is that each person walks away from The Man Who Saw Heaven with renewed praise for the man that communed with Jehovah!

2. I’m busy. What is the time commitment for cast members?2024-10-03T16:10:05+00:00

Minimal commitment. This is not a full-blown musical. And therefore, not much rehearsing will be needed.

When we first began developing this project, we made a decision to make this musical as “lean” as possible; a minimalist approach. We didn’t want the cast to spend much time rehearsing. We didn’t want to build a big set. We didn’t want to spend hours upon hours sewing costumes. We asked ourselves:

Is there a way to create a musical without all the time and effort it normally requires? Is there a simpler way to get it on stage?

We believe so!

The Man Who Saw Heaven is a hybrid between a MUSICAL and a CONCERT. The advantage of this “hybrid” approach is those involved do not have to be as involved (time wise) as a normal musical would demand.

What does that look like?

PHASE ONE: Auditioning & Casting. We are currently inviting anyone interested to audition.
PHASE TWO: Studio Recording. Cast members will be invited to the studio to record vocals for the album. This will be done one at a time.
PHASE THREE: Rehearsing. Although choreography will be at a minimum, there are still a few things to rehears. We will be asking cast members to attend (maybe) one rehearsal per week (depending on your role: some will be less). The “rehearsal phase” will most likely last about 2 months. We will be accommodating and flexible with everyone’s schedule. We understand that each person has a life, family, and commitments outside of this project. Again, we created this musical to be “lean” for that very reason.
PHASE FOUR: Touring. We will hold performances in Vancouver and Portland stake centers. These performances will most likely be on the weekends (FRI, SAT).

We do not want talented individuals to turn away from auditioning because they’re afraid of any future time commitment. If you are interested in participating, but are hesitant to commit, AUDITION ANYWAY. We will work with your schedule. We plan on double-casting, so if you can’t make it to a performance, we will have a back-up ready to fill your spot.

3. Will the cast get paid?2024-10-03T16:10:46+00:00

This is a free musical, performed by talented individuals with one shared motive: Love (love of theater, love of music, and love of the Gospel).

This is not a commercial endeavor. Tickets to this event will be free. The musical album will be accessible to everyone for free. The cast will not be paid. The writers will not be paid. Nor will the director. No one will gain financially from this musical.

This was a deliberate decision. We do not want money to get in the way.

Our Mission

There’s a Virus

The reason we decided to write The Man Who Saw Heaven was because we felt it could help fight against a virus.

“What is the virus?” you may ask.

It seems that more and more people are losing their faith. In this increasingly dark world, our youth are struggling to develop faith. These are the days when it is common place to experience a faith-crisis. In the past few years, many have left the faith.

Like Paul said in 1 TIM 4:1 “…in the latter times some shall depart from the faith”

That is a prophecy that pains us to witness.

An Antidote?

If there were an antidote to save your child from this virus, would you get it?

We testify that God is real, Jesus Christ is our Savior, and Joseph Smith Jr. is His prophet. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jesus Christ restored His true church to the earth in 1830. By doing so, He restored the authority and power to save all of God’s children through the ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This conviction burns within us. We believe the witness of these truths is the antidote for the horrible virus that plagues so many and leads them to depart from the faith.

Focus On The Youth

The purpose of The Man Who Saw Heaven is to strengthen the faith of every person involved: cast, crew, and audience. Music is a powerful gift from Heaven. Music has the ability to invite the Spirit to witness of truth.

Our Mission is to strengthen the faith of our youth and fellow saints in the Pacific Northwest by providing a musical performance of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our focus is to encourage the youth to participate (as cast or crew); to be part of something wholesome and good, something faith-building.

We Need From You

We cannot do this alone. We need the help of every faithful saint. Please, spread the word to your family, friends, members and leaders of your ward and stake. Please print off this flyer (click here) and give it to as many as you can. Help us fight against the virus of doubt and disbelief! Help us make this experience a beautiful reality.
